Join us for a great cause and help raise money for the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal and ride 'The Crucifix' on Mt Dandenong
Time 07:00 AM
Start Location The Basin VIC, Australia
Your Host : Diane
Our second Community ride for 2019, this is a fantastic way for the Melbourne cycling community to come together and raise funds for children and families. We are so happy to put this fundraiser on again.
How it works:
- Check in at The Basin Reserve anytime from 6:30am to 7:00am and collect your wristband
- Depart when you are ready. There is no set time or mass group start.
- Ride 'The Crucifix' at your own pace and in any order, but you should go to Sky High at least once!
Our preferred version is to do the four climbs "clockwise" starting with 1 in 20 with an additional loop through Montrose to the base of Inverness :
Up The 1 in 20 (6.8 km @ 4%), then through Olinda and up to Sky High then down to Montrose
Up Inverness Road (2.5km @ 9.1%), back to Olinda and down The Wall
Up The Wall (5.2 km @ 5.7%), then down through One Tree Hill Rd and Churchill Rd to Upper Ferntree Gully
Up The Devil’s Elbow (5.5 km @ 6.9%) and return via Churchill and One Tree Hill Road to Sassafrass, then down the 1 in 20 to finish
We will have a support station in the park at Sassafrass (at the top of 1 in 20) with plenty of Hot Cross Buns, red frogs, water and music to keep you pumped! Just look for the CycleHosts marquee.
All proceeds go directly to the RCH Good Friday Appeal and we want to smash last year's amazing effort! We are asking all riders to donate a minimum of $20 to join in on the fun for such a wonderful cause.
Not up for the full thing? No problem! 1 in 20 is a lovely climb which is manageable by most cyclists and a great introduction to the Dandenongs. Join our support crew at the top and cheer on your fellow riders. We can also recommend some other roads and climbs in the area.
Want More? Sure! Go for The Super Crucifix! To claim this you must go to Sky High four (4!) times - once after after each climb. This is approximately 101km and 3100m vertical.
